Under the new organization the Harbour
Master will be termed the Director of Marine,
and he will have
(a) one Assistant Director of Marine (Port Control), who will combine the duties of the posts formerly carried out by the Deputy and Assistant Harbour Masters, and
(b) one Assistant Director of Marine (Surveys), hitherto known as Principal Surveyor of Ships.
Either of these officers will be in a position
to act as Director of Marine in the absence of
the substantive office holder, and both can
legitimately aspire to promotion to
Director of Marine, if they hold the requisite
qualifications and are otherwise suitable for
